In 2011, Atikokan's own Mike Ranta (and his dog Spitzy) loaded up his Souris River Wilderness 18, and headed from Rocky Mountain House Alberta, to Montreal Quebec. His 5200 kilometre trip followed the traditional voyageur route. He completed the trip in 132 days, a feat we believe to be a world record for solo canoeing.
During the summer of 2014, he paddled from Vancouver to Cape Breton. He had already shattered the world record for a solo canoe trip when he crossed the Manitoba - Ontario border. And, yes, he’s planning another trip.
