Greenland Paddles by Joe O’Blenis
Many people who paddle solo canoes find that a kayak paddle provides better tracking
and easier steering than a canoe paddle. Unfortunately, standard kayak paddles aren’t
ideally suited to canoes, which are a little wider and higher off the water.
We have been using and recommending Greenland paddles hand-built by Joe O’Blenis in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Because they are narrow, you can more easily get an effective vertical stroke than with a typical kayak paddle. When necessary, you can easily hold it by one blade and get a wide sweep stroke. And, these stunning paddles will look great beside your woven colour Souris River canoe.
For most people, a 230 cm paddle (a little longer than you’d buy for kayaking) works very well with our Tranquility.
